Born out of an impromptu jam session at a 2009 benefit concert, Panton Flats is: Andy Smith (bass); Chris Myers (drums); Chris Wyckoff (piano, organ, vox); and Josh Brooks (guitar, vox). While the members of Panton Flats have individually shared the stage with Russell Batiste, Mike Gordon and Mighty Sam McClain, their collective reputation is as a band dedicated to well-crafted song structures, whirling, soulful improvisation, and powerful lyrical narratives. The overall effect harkens back to a time when music was about musicianship, when musicians communicated, harmonized, and pushed themselves to greater and greater heights in the process. Panton Flats has been playing their original and highly danceable blend of blues, funk, R&B and rock and roll in Vermont since 2009, including opening for Charles Neville and Henry Butler at the Vergennes Opera House in 2011. Panton Flats celebrated the release of their self-titled debut EP in 2013, and is currently working on new material and building their audience the old-fashioned way: one gig at a time.
